FORT WORTH, Texas—The audience applauded enthusiastically and gave a standing ovation for the Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Bass Performance Hall, on Thursday, Aug. 5. The Bass Performance Hall, an important symbol in Dallas/Forth Worth, is said to be the jewel in the crown of the cultural precinct. The Hall is renowned for its superb acoustics, exceptional sight lines and ambiance, on a par with the great halls of the world.
Janie Anderson who owns a medical skincare practice, and her husband, a plastic surgeon, were among the audience to experience the magic of Shen Yun, a New York-based performing arts company.
Mrs. Anderson refers to herself as an artist, an avid painter and sculptor.
Shen Yun brings China’s 5,000-year-old traditional culture of ancient legends, folkloric dances and contemporary stories to the stage through classical Chinese dance and music. Mrs. Anderson said, “The dancers, beautiful. The costumes were exquisite, the dancers were exquisite. Oh, yes, I loved it; they were very good.
“The fan dance [Fairies of the Clouds] was particularly beautiful … it just looked like they were floating on air! It was really beautiful.”
The International Company's orchestra that accompanies the performers, comprises of both traditional Chinese and classical Western instruments. Shen Yun also presents solo singing performances.
Mrs. Anderson appreciated the music saying the orchestra was “very good,” and the vocalists were “terrific—I thought they were really wonderful.”
As someone experienced in the visual arts, Mrs. Anderson really appreciated the digital backdrop that displayed landscapes and heavenly realms, and the way the dancers' movements and costumes played out a visual tapestry before her eyes.
She said of the backdrop: "That was actually really incredible—it really was. I thought it was a good use of multimedia, with the heavens and the people coming out. The costumes and the colors were absolutely stellar. Every, every bit of it. I wouldn't have improved anything.”
Mrs. Anderson felt that Shen Yun had touched her and said, “I had a smile on my face the whole time. It was really very great. I hope that I see it again—I hope that it'll be back in Bass Hall. I would like to come to the next show.”
