SAN JOSE, Calif.—Jim Wagar and Rosario attended the Shen Yun Performing Arts show at the San Josè Center for the Performing Arts on Wednesday night, July 21. This is the fourth city of the Shen Yun summer tour and the visit to San Josè was for just one night.
Mr. Wagar is the president of California Commercial Real Estate, Inc. and a managing member of Hat Creek Cattle Co., LLC. He purchased tickets to the show thinking it would be interesting to see and he was not disappointed.
“I thought the choreography was really amazing. And the music was very good,” he said.
Accompanying Mr. Wagar was Rosario, a director of finance administration for the state of California. She also enjoyed the performance. “I liked it. I haven’t seen this kind of show for a long time-so it’s good to see the traditional Chinese art and dance.”
According to the Shen Yun Performing Arts website, the company seeks to revive the essence of five-millennia-old artistic traditions of China and "breathe new life into traditional Chinese culture while providing audiences everywhere with an experience of sublime beauty."
"I thought it was very colorful, it was very well-done," Mr. Wagar commented, adding that he enjoyed the message of the show. "It spoke of freedom—I like it. So I appreciated that.”
In one of the dances, Nothing Can Block the Divine Path, a scene from contemporary China, a mother and daughter perform Falun Dafa exercises in a park, only to be discovered by police. The police carry out orders that are still in effect in China today-to arrest and break the will of anyone who follows this peaceful spiritual discipline.
Mr. Wagar was “somewhat aware of” the persecution of Falun Dafa. ”It was interesting to hear of it from the show. I found that very interesting. I thought the show was very well done and I enjoyed it,” he said.
Rosario particularly enjoyed "the drums and the handkerchiefs.” In the dance Handkerchiefs, young girls dance twirling and tossing their handkerchiefs with practiced ease. This northeastern folk dance captures the flair of a flourishing spring that finally blossoms in a sparkling finale.
Quite impressed, Rosario enthused, “I think the music was good, choreography, the costumes—very nice,” she said. Mr. Wagar added, “Oh, the costumes were gorgeous—they’re beautiful!”
