Couple Celebrates 35th Anniversary at Shen Yun

SACRAMENTO, Calif.—Sacramento Community Center Theater became an anniversary celebrating spot on Saturday Night.

Coming to watch Shen Yun Performing Arts, Mr. Carlos Lopez, director of a training program, wanted to “surprise [his wife] in doing something different” for this anniversary. He had the idea from receiving Shen Yun pamphlets in San Francisco and San Jose.

“I thought it would be a very interesting cultural, entertaining event to go,” said Mr. Lopez. “It is also our 35th anniversary. I thought I’d bring her to a cultural event.”

Upon watching the show featuring classical Chinese dance and solo musicians, the couple was very satisfied.

“My feeling was very entertaining, very colorful, very artistic, and men and women were dancing perfectly, just in unison,” said Mr. Lopez.

“I’ve enjoyed all [the programs.] I actually liked the group ones—the men and women in their groups were just dancing so beautifully together and so in unison.”

His wife was happy with her husband’s present.

“It’s actually much more amazing than I thought,” said Mrs. Juanita Lopez, supervisor of a One-Stop Career Center. “I wasn’t sure what I was coming to other than it was a cultural event, but once the show started and everything, everything was just very beautiful, I love the precision. They are really talented people obviously to work together like that.”

She added that celebrating her anniversary at Shen Yun is very good.

“It’s actually pretty good. It’s a very entertaining show. I just loved the folkloric kind of background ... . It’s just very beautiful.”
'Absolutely stunning'

Betty, a former Spanish and French teacher was at the show with Eli, a retired businessman

Betty was captivated by the scene unfolding before her eyes as one vista seamlessly changed from one to another.

"It’s just thrilling. It’s beautiful. You think there are more dancers when they are up there than there actually I guess were when they came out. It was a spectacular performance. It was absolutely stunning," she said.

Eli expressed the same sentiments.

"I thought the performance was absolutely stunning and wonderful. And it’s free China, you know, let’s get our expression out. Let’s get our expression out. Let’s bring more of this culture into America and take America out to China and become friends, neighbors, and just get together and have a wonderful relationship."

Eli said he read about Shen Yun in a newspaper and decided to call New York where the company is based to find a little more.

He said he was saddened to learn Shen Yun wasn't able to perform in China and "express themselves the way they do here.

He had also served in the army's Special Warfare Force in Korea.
