Shen Yun Returns to Florida for Orlando Debut

ORLANDO, Florida—"The City Beautiful" hosted its first Shen Yun performance on June 30 at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, in downtown Orlando.

Fay Kam, a New York model, now living in Orlando, spoke with an Epoch Times reporter after the show. She was so thrilled with the experience of Shen Yun she found it difficult to express her appreciation. “It's great, I love it," she managed to say. “Oh my gosh, I can't believe it.”

Ms. Kam modeled for ten years in Hong Kong before coming to the United States. While in Hong Kong and China, she had seen shows featuring “Chinese culture,” but said those shows could not compare.

Those shows were “okay,” she said, “but not like this—so different. I can't believe it so different.

“I want to see the show again … it’s hard to explain, it’s so great, so great”

She described the orchestra as “perfect,” and “absolutely wonderful”.

The show was so good it left her speechless, she said. She would recommend it to her friends but she couldn’t begin to describe it. “I would tell all my friends to come see the show,” she said.

“I just don't know how to say it. It's just too good. I am speechless. Awesome!”

This was New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts’ seventh performance of the year in Florida, with January performances in Fort Lauderdale, St. Petersburg, and Jacksonville as part of its 2020 World Tour to more than 100 cities.

Florida officials from the federal, state, and local levels welcomed Shen Yun back to Florida in January for its third consecutive year, and the Orlando debut brought new letters of welcome and proclamations.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer issued a proclamation declaring June 30 as Shen Yun Day in Orlando. The proclamation recognizes Shen Yun for “showcasing genuine traditional Chinese culture” through the expression of classical Chinese dance and commends Shen Yun for its “achievements in rediscovering the traditional cultural arts of China.”

Orange County Mayor Richard Crotty recognized the Shen Yun production as both inspiring and educational. “Based on the authentic cultural heritage of China, the company celebrates the beauty, mystique, and grandeur of the dances and the music of Chinese culture,” he wrote.

The mayors of the nearby cities of Winter Park, Altamonte Springs, Ocoee, Oviedo, and South Daytona also issued welcoming statements, as did Gov. Charlie Crist, U.S. Sens. Bill Nelson and George S. LeMieux, and State Reps. Chris Dorworth, Dean Cannon, and Scott Plakon.

After the Orlando show, Shen Yun will perform in Houston, followed by five cities in California: Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, San Jose, and San Francisco, all in July.
