'I learned a lot tonight' Says Providence Councilwoman

PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Shen Yun Performing Arts captivated the audience in its opening show at The Providence Performing Arts Center on Saturday, June 26.

Josephine DiRuzzo, a City of Providence Councilwoman, attended the show to see how good the dance company is.

"My curiosity got the best of me—I had to come and see this," she said.

After watching the show, she was convinced that Shen Yun Performing Arts' performances are truly magnificent.

"Absolutely magnificent. The colors, the dancing–I’m impressed," she said.

"The stories that they tell about their culture, it's just magnificent. I'm glad I came."

Ms. DiRuzzo describes herself as a proponent of arts, and says she tries to encourage interest in the arts.

"I love the arts, and I attend as many shows that I can here at The Providence Performing Arts Center," she explained.

"If I compare … this performing arts [company] with other performing arts [companies] we have here in America, the dancing was magnificent."

The Shen Yun performance that she saw tonight was so stunning that she could not take her eyes off the stage for one minute, she said.

"I loved them all. I am so impressed with the dancers … beautiful dancers, both the men and the females."

The costumes in the show were magnificent as well, she added, and the colors were "absolutely outstanding."

Another impressive aspect of the show was its educational feature, and how one gets to learn about the history and present situation in China.

"It taught me. I learned a lot tonight," she said.

"I'm glad they came to Providence and I hope everyone has an opportunity to see this show."
