Spectators 'Amazed' by Shen Yun

LODZ, Poland—Shen Yun Performing Arts are reaching people of all ages and backgrounds with their revival of China's ancient culture through classical Chinese dance and music. Performing three magical shows at the Great Theatre this year, the New York-based artists have again inspired Polish audiences with their depiction of Chinese legends, contemporary stories and enduring moral values.
Mr. Banaszek is a banker and attended Shen Yun with Ms. Kontal who works in finance. Neither of them have had contact with the art of Chinese culture before, and they both enjoyed the show very much.
"I’m really amazed by everything from beginning to end. It’s impossible to say what I like the most. Everything is different. Every part has it’s own expression," exclaimed Mr. Banaszek.
He said he especially liked Tibetan Dance of Praise. This is a lively depiction of life in the snowy Himalayas, with young men and women dressed in the attire of traditional Tibetan nobility.
Mrs Kontal thought the colourful costumes were so amazing. According to Shen Yun's website, "Apparel has always been an essential part of China’s five-millennia-old, divinely-bestowed culture. Each costume is carefully designed and tailored with meticulous care."
'It was very interesting'
Psychologist Aleksandra Szczygiel saw Shen Yun with Karol Kacinski, an English lecturer, and her daughter Marysia. They have never been to China but were already aware of the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners by the communist regime in China.
"It was very interesting," said Ms. Kacinski who appreciated learning more about traditional Chinese culture through the dancing.
She continued, "It is horrible that something like this [Falun Gong oppression] can take place in our century, but we hope that something will be changing during the time. It is not good to forbid anybody's faith and whatever he believes in. It does people a lot of harm."
Since Falun Gong was banned in 1999, millions of Chinese people and their families have suffered at the hands of the communist regime. Yet peaceful resistance continues, based on practitioners' principles of truth, compassion and tolerance.
Marysia said she also liked the show and would definitely like to see it again next year, as did Mr. Szyzygiel who said they all enjoyed it, especially 'Mongolian Hospitality' and In a Miao Village. These dances help to show the diversity of China's many ethnicities.
'I'm very impressed'
Lukasz is an artist and works for a pharmaceutical company. His girlfriend is from China so he was very interested to learn about traditional Chinese art.
"I’m very impressed," he said about the color and beauty of Shen Yun.
He continued in his praises of Shen Yun and concluded by saying, "For me it is something really new."
