Shen Yun a Lesson in Chinese Culture

HONOLULU, Hawaii—The Concert Hall at the Neal Blaisdell Center again saw Shen Yun Performing Arts grace the stage on Saturday June 5.

Mitch Dudoit, a construction manager for a large national company, Western Construction, and Debs Dudoit, a branch administrator for the same company, were in the audience to experience Shen Yun.

Mrs. Dudoit explained that her mother is Chinese, and so the couple decided to come and watch the show.

“I think it's beautiful, the dance, and I love the scenery and the background," Mrs. Dudoit said.

“I like the pictures and the style of dancing. I'm learning a little bit of culture because I really don't know a whole lot about it."

Amazed by how the female dancers appear to float across the stage, Ms. Dudoit said, “it looks like they're skating, their feet go so fast.”

Mr. Dudoit added, “I like the colors. They're nice and very bright, vibrant colors.”

Shen Yun Performing Arts tours with a live orchestra featuring both traditional Chinese and Western instruments. Mr. Dudoit said, “the music is excellent. It's amazing that all of this is actually live music."

Mrs. Dudoit found it difficult to believe a live orchestra could perform so well-coordinated with the dance on stage. She thought “it sounds like it's programmed.”

"Even the lightning... all that... everything is so timed well. The singers, even the piano player and the soprano and the baritone."

They both felt that Shen Yun was a lesson in Chinese culture.

Mr. Dudoit said Shen Yun “gives me some insight into the Chinese spirituality. I don't know much about their beliefs. When they talk about going back 5,000 years, that's kind of interesting that whatever their beliefs are they have been following that for that many years.”

Ms. Dudoit felt she wanted to learn more about many things she had seen on stage. She expressed her wish to have brought her nephew to see Shen Yun as he is studying Chinese at Harvard and is on vacation at the moment.

Shen Yun Performing Arts will perform one more shows in Honolulu at the Blaisdell Concert Hall at 2.00pm on Sunday June 6. For more information, visit ShenYunPerformingArts.org
