A glittering array of people from business, government, and the arts filled the lower lounge of Radio City Music Hall for the gala reception hosted by New Tang Dynasty Television just before the inaugural performance of the New York run of the Chinese New Year Spectacular.

Guillermo Linares, Commissioner for the Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs, presented NTDTV President Zhong Lee with a proclamation honoring the 2007 Chinese New Year Spectacular. Commissioner Linares read the proclamation and later spoke to The Epoch Times about how the Spectacular highlighted the essence of a great tradition and culture.
"New York City benefits from the diversity of the world, especially the heritage of a large portion of our population. This is a wonderful way to have New York celebrate Chinese culture."
A leading proponent of human rights in Hong Kong was on hand to lend support: Jin Zhong, chief editor of Open magazine, a political monthly that has, for 20 years, commanded highly influential readership and is respected in mainland China and Taiwan. The publication has been honored by Amnesty International and other human rights organizations. He and his wife are attending because of their appreciation for the Chinese culture that the Spectacular presents.
Stephen Shapiro, owner and managing partner of the Buckingham Hotel, said his company has a long relationship with the arts and it was "love at first sight" when he agreed to support NTDTV's Spectacular. "It has everything we want to support all in one." Mr. Shapiro said this was his second year supporting the event and he was pleased to be there.
Leslie Platt, director of sales for Spectacular sponsor San Carlos Hotel supports arts and media events. She was familiar with Chinese performances, saying, "I love the dance dramas."
With young daughter in hand, CBS2 Anchor Cindy Hsu gave a congratulatory greeting at the reception, offering best wishes for the New York run.
